Ronen Shai is a Doctor of Musical Arts candidate at Manhattan School of Music in New York. He holds a Master's degree in composition from Manhattan School of Music and a Bachelor's degree in composition from the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, Israel. In Manhattan his composition teachers were Marjorie Merryman and Nils Vigeland, and in Israel he was a student of Yinam Leef, Michael Wolpe and Andre Hajdu. In 2008 he was granted a scholarship from the America Israel Cultural Foundation, and in 2007, 2008 and 2010 he received scholarships from Manhattan School of Music. Mr. Shai's compositions have been performed in the United States, Europe and the Middle East. He has lectured on his music at Manhattan School of Music and Columbia University, and participated in master classes with György Kurtág and Robert Beaser. Recent compositions by Mr. Shai have been performed by the Glass Farm Ensemble in New York and the Tiroler Ensemble für Neue Musik in Jerusalem, Israel and Tirol, Austria. He currently resides in New York City.
